JOSÉ A. MEDINA

Engineer and Producer

About Us

I was born in Ciudad Real (Spain) in 1978. I spent my childhood in Puertollano, where I began my musical studies at the ‘Pablo Sorozábal’ Professional Conservatory of Music. In 1992, I moved to Ciudad Real and started playing the guitar in several rock and metal bands of the capital. During that time, I also had the opportunity to be a session guitarist on various recordings.

My technological studies began with vocational training courses focused on electronics, and then telecommunications and computing, concluding my formal education by studying Technical Engineering in Telecommunications (sound and image) at the UCLM, specializing in acoustics and audio frequency equipment.

In 2000, along with Rafael Romero, I founded Artica Studios, a small recording studio oriented towards low-budget productions. During those years, I had the chance to work on countless projects of the most varied musical styles.

I left Artica Studios in 2006 and began working as a freelance mix engineer on all kinds of musical productions from different countries (USA, Latin America, etc.), a task I combined with the production of soundtracks and rock and pop albums, as well as occasional recording jobs in auditoriums and churches of classical, brotherhood, and folk music. Shortly thereafter, I started my work at the Blackwaves studios in Ciudad Real.

In 2013, I traveled to Mexico, where I finally settled, serving as the Dean of Technological Studies at the D.F. Campus at the Fermatta Music Academy until early 2015. In addition to my duties as dean, I taught classes on acoustics, electronics, production, recording, and mixing.

Currently, I am a professor at the undergraduate level of acoustics, electronics, and advanced recording and mixing techniques at Rec Música - Center for Musical Studies and carry out productions and audio engineering work both at Uniphonic in Mexico City.

In addition to my work as a sound engineer and producer, I also produce dissemination articles on topics related to sound and audio. My articles have been published in magazines and specialized internet portals such as Hispasonic.
