Uniphonic Profile
MY PHILOSOPHY
EVERY PRODUCTION SHOULD HAVE ITS OWN IDENTITY
At Uniphonic, I see every music project as a unique opportunity to create something new and unrepeatable.
My philosophy is based on crafting a unique sonic identity for each production—far from the mass-production mindset that dominates the industry and makes so many works sound the same.
I firmly believe that every album, EP, or song should have its own character. That’s why I approach every production with a fresh, personalized perspective, giving it that unique spirit that makes it truly special.
Beyond the cutting-edge equipment and the acoustically designed rooms, the most valuable thing I bring to the table is the experience I’ve gained over more than twenty years working on music projects.
I invite you to explore this website, and if you’re interested in working with me, feel free to reach out on WhatsApp. And if you want, we can schedule a video call. I’d be happy to talk with you about how to bring your project to life with the soul it deserves.
JOSÉ A. MEDINA
ENGINEER & PRODUCER
I am a sound engineer, music producer, and audio instructor with more than 20 years of experience working with artists and record labels in the production, recording, mixing, and mastering of music across all genres.
My background is both musical and technical: I studied at the conservatory and later specialized in acoustics and audio frequency during my telecommunications engineering degree.
Throughout my career, I have worked in countless recording studios, and for years now I’ve been producing from my own space: Uniphonic. I have participated in more than 200 music productions and collaborated with musicians and producers from several countries, mainly Mexico, Spain, Argentina, and the United States.
I have also been a university-level instructor at institutions such as the Academia de Música Fermatta—where I served as Dean of Technological Studies—and Rec Música, teaching courses on acoustics, production, recording, and mixing.
Currently, in addition to my work as an engineer at Uniphonic, I teach online mixing courses and write about sound and music production for specialized outlets such as Hispasonic.
Recording Studio
Room A – Control Room
The control room at Uniphonic is designed with precise acoustics for critical listening. I work with a full-range monitoring system based on three-way Adam S3A monitors and an ADAM Sub12 subwoofer, allowing me to hear the entire audible frequency spectrum with absolute clarity.
The workstation features two UAD Apollo interfaces, Avid control surfaces, and a Solid State Logic analog mixing desk, which I use on all my mixes.
I also have additional outboard gear to freely shape the sound according to each project’s needs. And if you prefer, I can record on 2" analog tape with up to 24 simultaneous tracks.
Room B – Recording Room
The recording room is designed to capture even the smallest detail of every instrument. It’s ideal for recording individual instruments or small ensembles.
I have movable acoustic panels that allow me to adjust parameters such as initial delay time, EDT, or T60, shaping the room’s acoustic response according to the needs of each session. This helps instruments integrate naturally into the mix.
It’s a versatile space: just as suitable for capturing aggressive metal drums as it is for recording small chamber music groups. Every recording deserves a unique approach — and it all starts with getting the take right.
Room C – Freaky Room
It’s not all work. There are moments to disconnect, too.
At Uniphonic, I have a space designed specifically for relaxing during sessions. I know that many recordings involve downtime —whether due to technical adjustments, editing, or while other musicians are doing their takes— so I set up a room where you can grab a coffee, listen to music, watch a game, or play a few rounds on the arcade machine, which includes more than 1,300 classic games from the 80s, 90s and 2000s.
The goal is for you to feel comfortable and enjoy the process — not just achieving a great recording, but having a good time while making it.
